We are a pottery gallery. We exhibit and sell works by potters active in Karatsu and other areas of Hizen. Please come and see the tradition of Karatsu ware and the modern style of "Wabi Sabi".
●岡晋吾 - Oka Shingo -
Born in Nagasaki in 1958. After training in Arita, he worked at Hizen（Saga）pottery. He studied under his master, the famous culinary researcher "Shinojima Chu". In 1993, he became independent in Nishi-Arita Town, and in 2003, he moved to Karatsu and built "Tenpyo-gama".His free style, which incorporates tradition and modernity, is also known as "Oka Shingo-yaki" and is popular both in Japan and abroad.
●岡さつき - Oka Satsuki -
The partner of "Tenpyo-gama" owner Shingo Oka, who graduated from the painting department of the Arita Ceramic School in 1981 and worked at the Arita and Kutani（Ishikawa）. In 2009, she finished raising her children and resumed pottery making at Tenpyo-gama. Her style is to create lovely dishes that add a touch of elegance to the daily dining table.

The handle of the door of HOTEL KARAE is "majolica ware" by Shingo Oka. In the center is Karatsu Castle, surrounded by decorations inspired by pine trees and wisteria.

At KARAE TABLE on the 1st floor of KARAE, croissant sandwiches using ingredients unique to Karatsu are served on oval plates by Kumamoto Sho. At Specialty Coffee, you can enjoy home-roasted coffee in Kumamoto Sho's mugs.
Born in Fukuoka in 1978.
After working as a company employee in Fukuoka, she became a potter and graduated from the pottery course at Arita Ceramic School in 2006. She studied under Karatsu ware potter Kiyomi Kawakami and built her own kiln, "Mitoh Klin," in 2009.
She has developed a modern Japanese style while making full use of Karatsu-yaki, which has been nurtured in the world of apologies.

At KARAE TABLE on the first floor of KARAE, you can enjoy a seasonal café menu with plates by Rui Mito.
Born in Karatsu in 1986.
His father is Sakurei Okamoto, a potter at Sakurei-gama. After graduating from an art school and working for a design company, he started his ceramic activities at “SAKUREI-Gama” in 2011. And in 2018, he became independent and set up his own studio in Ouchi. He is building a new world view of Karatsu-yaki with her dressy and gentle style based on tradition.

KARAE TABLE on the first floor of KARAE offers an autumn/winter limited menu of “shaved ice” on plates by Shuichi Okamoto.
Born in Imari in 1975.
After graduating from university, he went on to Arita Ceramic School in Saga. After that, he worked as a contracted part-time assistant for two years and studied under Mr. Junji Nomura of "Kazentani Jungama" in Ureshino City, Saga Prefecture.In 2006, he opened "Hakkayou". With its simple and modern design and outstanding functionality. He is a popular potter who enjoys the support of a wide range of people for his simple and modern designs and outstanding functionality.

KARAE TABLE on the 1st floor of KARAE is now serving regular & seasonal cafe sweets and lunches in Yoshinaga Sadam's dishes.
Born in Hamasaki, Karatsu in 1971.
She began making pottery mainly in the old Karatsu style in 1994, and established Yukiko-gama in 1998 under the tutelage of Takashi Nakazato of "Ryuta-gama. After taking a leave of absence for childbirth and childcare, she resumed pottery making in 2010. Yukiko's black Karatsu(Kuro-karatsu) , with its earthy texture, has the generosity to accept any dish.

The ceramic board shining glossily on the counter of GALLERY Karae on the first floor of KARAE is the work of Yukiko Tsuchiya. More than 300 pieces of black karatsu are decorated. In addition, HOTEL KARAE is now offering a plan to experience painting and cooking at Yukiko-gama.
Born in Shizuoka, in 1983.
After graduating from university with a major in art history, he became a potter and started making pottery in Karatsu in 2006. After training under Karatsu potter Kiyomi Kawakami, he established his own pottery studio, Torisu-gama, in 2012. He is a young potter who is attracting attention for his modern style while making full use of the traditional techniques of Karatsu-yaki.

The ceramic artwork on the wall of KARAE TABLE on the first floor of KARAE is a joint work by Masahiro Kishida and Keiko Yoshino of Hazenotani-gama, also a Karatsu ware. They expressed the rich and beautiful seascape of Karatsu.
Born in Karatsu in 1978.
After graduating from the Arita Ceramic School in 2003, he studied under Kiyomi Kawakami, a Karatsu potter, and in 2008 established Kentarogama on the hillside of Kagami mountain, overlooking Niji-no-matsubara（pine grove） and Karatsu Bay.
Born in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka in 1991.
After graduating from the Arita Ceramics School, he apprenticed at Karatsu Pottery “Aya-gama” from 2016 and at “Tenpyo-gama” from 2018. After completing his apprenticeship, he gained experience as a potter belonging to “Tenpyo-gama” and became an independent artist in the spring of 2024.
Born in Kumamoto in 1986.
After training in Arita, Saga Prefecture since 2011, he gained experience in fabric production at the Tenpyo-gama and Mitoh-gama in Karatsu. 2016, he opened "Bekkiseitouzyo" and while making pottery and fabric, he also works as a potter at the Kentaro-gama in Karatsu.
